It was a rainy day, with tarnish and muddy land in Cikarang. But, I couldn’t be more excited than today. Tuesday, 5th January 2015, I started my first day in Sucorinvest as equity analyst, the position I dream of after my graduation. I woke up at 4 am, took bus at 5, and reached office at 6.45. I was full of stamina to meet my new friends! God is just too good, I was blessed to meet tons of great people earlier on.
Ko Jerry – as I am used to call this super young-spirited man in the office –, trusts me and Sandy, the Lomboknese who I’ve known since 2011, to handle a new research product specializing in on the ground report. We name it EXTREME, the same as our team name and… type of activity we do.
This was our last trip to East Java, travelling to Jember, Lumajang, Pasuruan, Probolinggo, Malang, and Kediri. We’ve visited for the second time. First, it aimed to help our property analyst to check property selling in Surabaya and the operation of Semen Puger in Jember. Disguising as mysterious shoppers, negotiating with property agent, and touring in cement fabric. That was very tiring, yet intriguing.
The second trip was about to check life in rural Indonesia. Visiting house to house randomly, looking for farmers association and irrigation system. What an impressing view! By any chance, I feel grateful of my life.
Lots of humorous conversations were enhanced in our trip, as two of us (the writer and Emily) are beautiful girls with white skins and oriental faces. Many local people asked, “Aduh neng, itu gimana kulitnya kok bisa putih banget? Kasi tahu donk rahasianya.” Emily, the metropolitan girl graduated from Los Angeles, answered funnily with her native English, “Ah, orang LA mah engga mau kulit putih gini, Bu. Mereka pada pakai tanning oil biar kulitnya tanned gitu kayak punya Ibu.” The 50-year-old woman looked not understand on what Emily said, but still laughed crunchily to appreciate her.
These first 3 months with Sucorinvest were mind blowing. Hitting the street, talking with people, and digging through their mind, are the real research with high-valued investment ideas. “There are plenty of trips to go. Stay strong, tighten your belt. Those will be more exciting,” said Ko Jerry. Yeah, extreme team is more than ready!
